Keyboard Shortcuts
Have you ever watched a friend working away on the computer making changes and swapping screens, etc., faster than you thought was possible? There is a good chance that your friend has incorporated several keyboard shortcuts into his or her processes. Keyboard shortcuts enable a user to perform common and sometimes complicated tasks by pressing a combination of keys on his keyboard. We strongly recommend that all users at all levels learn some shortcuts to make their computing lives much more efficient and comfortable.
1. Ctrl+C
The Ctrl+C keyboard shortcut is probably one of if not the most common keyboard shortcut known to modern day computing. Highlight some text and then press Ctrl+C to copy that text to the clipboard of your computer. The clipboard is a temporary storage center in your computer that can hold quite a bit of information. Copying content using Ctrl+C makes that content available for pasting into other documents or programs on your computer.
2. Ctrl+V
What good would it be to copy without the ability to paste? The second keyboard shortcut in our list is the Ctrl+V combination which pastes whatever you have copied to your clipboard. This keyboard shortcut is not limited to text, but includes images and other binary forms of data as well.
3. Ctrl+Z
It may have been best to put Ctrl+Z as #1 on our list because it can be a real lifesaver! Ctrl+Z is the infamous “undo” keyboard shortcut. Whatever you have typed in a document can be undone with this combination. This shortcut works with the majority of software programs as well. If I happen to draw a line incorrectly in Adobe Photoshop, Ctrl-Z will save the day!
4. Ctrl+S
Yet another lifesaving keyboard shortcut is the Ctrl+S combination. Ctrl+S saves a current version of the document you are working on. This shortcut is all but universal for all software types. Don’t forget to hit Ctrl-S from time to time!
5. Ctrl+P
Rounding out our top 5 is the Ctrl+P shortcut. This shortcut prints whatever you are viewing or working with, be it a document, web page, or graphic. Ctrl+P is another almost universal shortcut combination that can be used in almost any piece of software.
